Each Saturday afternoon we offer a horse riding program for children from 6 to 12 years old.
Afternoon Sessions Only – 2.30pm to 5.30pm
Each Saturday the riders have a private 30 minute horse riding lesson and then the rest of the time is spent learning, hands on, how to care for horses. This includes horse management activities which the riders work through at their own pace, these activities cover horse care, horse behaviour and stable management in addition to their riding achievements. The Hoofbeats program is ideal for those children who would like to own their own horse but are not be in a position to get one.
On the last Saturday of each term a Gymkhana is held in the afternoon for all horse riders, with ribbons to be won by all and trophies for “Hardest Worker” and “Most Improved Rider” which are presented at the end of term break-up party. “Certificates of Achievement” are also awarded for the Horse Management Activities at the end of each term as the horse riders work through the Hoofbeats Syllabus.
There are 3 main levels of skill development in the program;
Once the riders have worked through this skill development they are ready to enter the EA Term program. Rider logs are updated after each horse riding lesson to ensure each child has continuity to their lesson, these logs are also for parents to follow their child’s’ progress. 5
For children 12yrs and older, Wattle Creek offers children the chance to achieve various EA Certificates. The EA program offers the required training and assessment for the Equestrian Australia Riding and Horse Management Certificates to the general public (you don’t need to own a horse to complete these certificates).
